MINDSET for Entrepreneurs

Mindset plays a big role in shaping your experience as an entrepreneur. It can make you or break you. Cultivating a positive growth mindset will lead to learning, integrating feedback and gaining success in your business. This article will take you through some key influencing factors followed by reflection questions you can use to get clearer on areas to improve in your mindset.

The Outside Voices

When you're just starting out, not everyone will take you seriously. When you establish your business, not everyone will like what you do. And that's okay!

It's not about what one person thinks or feels. It's about the audience you're trying to serve. It’s about providing value for them, because there will always be someone who doesn’t like what you're doing.

Reflection question: How do you feel about what you’re creating? (ignore your family, friends and other external influences when answering. How do you truly feel?)

Your Circle/Environment

I really had to learn to believe in myself, even when a lot of people around me didn’t. I was doubted many times and startedbelieving, “My idea already exists. Why should I do it when there’s so much competition?”

Remember, your uniqueness is what sets you apart!

Reflection questions:

Who’s in your close circle/environment? Are they cheering you on or making you doubt yourself?
What steps do you need to take to distance yourself from those who are unsupportive?
How are you thanking your support system?

The Emotional Rollercoaster

It's no doubt that entrepreneurship is an emotional rollercoaster. Some days you’ll be on a high from closing a sale, getting great engagement on your latest IG post or making a valuable connection. Other days you might feel totally down when a potential client doesn’t sign up, you’re low on money or someone throws a nasty comment your way.

Reflection questions: What's a failure that you’ve had in your business that really impacted you? How can you reframe it as a learning lesson?

Mindset Tools: Positive Affirmation (Louise Hay)

I absolutely love positive affirmations to start my day. I frequently listen to or read Louise Hay. She has some great affirmations focused on money, health and relationships such as, “I am good enough,” “I am willing to see my magnificence,” and “I rise above all limitations.” Affirmations program your mind to believe a thought and shift your thinking around that thought, which can impact your reality.

Your Toolkit for Success

Lastly, having resources to surround yourself with will contribute to a positive mindset. Books and podcasts are a great way to learn from experts who have been in your shoes previously and achieved success. You can also work with a business coach or mastermind group, meditate, hit the gym, journal or listen to your favorite music that gets you feeling pumped and energized to accomplish your goals.

Reflection question: What can you implement NOW? Don’t wait for January 2020!

Try these tips to work on your mindset and increase feelings of balance, success and motivation.
